October 2002

What a busy month for the local members.

October always seems to be a hectic month in Bathurst, probably due to the long association with motor racing on the Labour Day long weekend (or in the past few years a week or two later), and in recent times the Phillip Island G.P. which falls very close and provides a feast of motor sport, especially if you have the opportunity to throw the Indy Cars at Surfers in as well.

This year we had the added association with the V8 Ball and our group's efforts to raise funds for Arthritis research. We were very lucky to be the recipients of the proceeds of an auction on the night, conducted by member Dennis Tyson, and some very generous patrons of the ball, which was a huge success due in large part to the efforts of one of our lady members, Di Clyne. We were also fortunate to have a number of high profile guests at the ball including Stephen Dearnley, Dr John Hewson and Peter Hocking.

Unfortunately our monthly ride coincided with the Phillip Island trip but this didn't stop 6 of our local members, 3 friends from the Temora area, and a visitor from W.A. having a fantastic few days making the trip down and back. Last years chef and official photographer Frank Colzato couldn't make it this year, but Garry came to the rescue with photos of the Phillip Island trip. But as you can see he did make the ball (along with a very strong contingent of local members) and has provided some excellent shots of our members having a disgracefully good time.
