November 2003

Parkes Aero Club 16/11 - I am sure we have all riden in some pretty terrible conditions over the years but Sunday 16th November must go down as one of the worst I have experienced as far as extremes go.

We started from Maccas car park with the regular dozen bikes and headed off to Canowindra via Blayney in winds so strong and gusty that you had to concentrate hard to stay on your own side of the road.

From Canowindra through Eugowra and on to Parkes the temperature rose and the wind just got stronger. Our hosts, the Parkes Aero Club put on a fantastic BBQ lunch and supplied use of their club house, which proved the only escape from the wind.

Unfortunately the weather conditions prohibited any flying so we recouperated over lunch for the trip home.

Just as we were preparing to leave Parkes the winds brought the not unexpected thunderstorms which chased us all the way home.

So those that think that Bathurst is the only place you can expect multiple seasons in one day are wrong, anywhere in this region can be the same, from seering heat to torential downpour to gale force winds, we coped it all.

Thanks must go to Kim Miller who organised the day, and of course to the Parkes Aero Club for hosting us. Unfortunately, as good as his connections are, Kim couldn’t control the weather. Better luck next time Kim.
